Home and Designs, Piecing, Using my Go-cutter,

Busy two days... using my new Go-cutter.
(Which I loved)

An easy design this one... I only wanted to do the 2.5" squares
so designed an easy quilt in EQ7 and cut it all out
Always hoped to do a red and white quilt.
Plus - I get to use up some of my stash... which I really need to do.

Well here is my project... those small squares were so easy and quick to get done.
I have one block sewn  as you can see on the design board.. and all the mostly white blocks are sewn

I visited Cristy Fincher 's blog.  Her blog is Sew Much Like Mom
Had a bit of a revalation.  I watched her video on Glue basting... and made the blocks you see on my board with this method....
I listened to the Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon for the 4th time!!

The blocks were so easy to sew together with the glue basting..no pins and I had practised perfecting my 1/4' seams.
which is something I have been having trouble with..
It worked a treat!
Time passed very quickly too as I listend to my audiobooks.

Now I have ALL my blocks prepared and ready to sew... it didn't really take me long.
I may have to wait till after ther weekend though, to get them together

I am trying to get some easy projects done so I can have something ready when/if my Bernina quilt frame arrives in the very near future.
That's my excuse anyway :)
Oh and I did some cooking.  Two quiches and an all in one apple cake
from a recipe that I saved from facebook last week...
This is the second one I have made in a week...so easy .. and very yummy!

Till next time

More Small Moments of time

A small window of time and I did 5 minutes of the fillers in the small quilt ....

still some spaces to do more fillers... Nessie waits patiently :)

... and also managed a few Pin Cushions.

No time for anything bigger just now.

Home

Just a brief note.
As my Dh is quite unwell - and has been so for a while....
I am not actually getting a great deal done sewing wise as he needs my TLC :)

However here is what came in the post for me today

Now I just need time to get this done - never mind all the rest of the UPO's...

Will catch up again soon.

More quilting

I have been busy again...and it is sooooo hot!!

This is what I have been up to today
I have my Pffaf on the right and my Bernina 440 on the left.
On the right I am working on the SITD for quilt I am quilting on for a friend
I dont have much more of that to do.
Think I have worked out what to do on the sashing...but thats all!

This is what I was finishing on the Bernina - and I actually got the tension right for the silk...I have marks on the bobbin and on the top tension... that interesting ...I actually remembered what they were for :)

I decided to wash it before I completed it,  to see what would happen to all the marking.
The light blue disappeared as it hit the water.. that was good!
The pencil I had marked,  I  had marked too hard...that was not good!
The black Berol washable pen did come out, but gave me a start as it went pink after a while - its out now...that is good, but was a bit of a worry
It soaked for nearly 24 hours.  Its washed and is drying, but some of the pencil is still showing.
Thats still not good.

Now the other interesting thing for us here is that we are on a Cyclone Watch!!
Unusual for us this far South.
Cyclone Bianca  is at present a Cyclone 3 category, and is curently tracking down our coast.  It is due to come in and hit us here...on Sunday, with winds at 120km/hour.
By then it should be a category 1!!

Scary!

No idea what to expect .  The last Cyclone we had this far down was in the 1970's - and I DO remember that!  Not good.
So tomorrow we need to move some loose things out of the way...
I may shift my sewing machines to another room just in case, and we will wait and see what happens.
Its HOT and very Humid just now!

Will let you know how we go.

Future FMQ

I was struck with a new idea during yesterday..... which resulted in a quick - so I thought , table runner  Here are some pics of what is done so far.  The top is all together, with lots of room for me to quilt.

I designed this patten to go on a 12" block In the right hand corner is the original 1/8th of the design which I repeated around the 12" square.  I have drawn the three central white blocks with the design.
I have freezer paper ironed to the back of the quilt so it will be firm as I draw.

Freezer paper design ironed to the reverse of the block #1 andf ready to come off.

On the light box positioning it ready to draw on the fabric for Block #2

And my todays inspiration - a small flower using turned edge appliqe.... (which I still have to machine down)  I have put one of these each end of the runner.  It took me most of the day...and evening..
I havnt drawn on the rest as that other lovely space is for FMQ .
Now I have just to sandwich it together ....and quilt it.  Maybe another UFO as I dont think it will get done soon.  But I would love to get it done ....sigh
I have presents to wrap and shops to go to.
Its nearly 2am and I need sleep again to refresh for tomorrow.

My exotic Bloom designed by Sharon Schamber is up on my design board waiting for me to sew... As you can probably tell - I have been watching her video on how to make this...just the final sewing stages to go and I have never sewn with the polyester thread before... so I am hesitating.
More quilting on my Whole Cloth quilt first.  I am very nervous of changing the tension when Its working so well.

Ist this wonderful - Andrea cooked tea tonight...it was delicious, and even more so as I didn't have to make it :)
Macaroni Pasta Bake.

I have another applique block here...Its designed by Joanne of Thread Head
I guess I will get better as I go along...the circles are not quite right...not to worry - it keeps me busy.

I am here briefly again.
As you will see - I have been watching Sharon Schamber videos on how to design a quilt.
I have been drawing at spaced intervals
...and wishing I could sew :(
However this will keep
I have just glued the 8 pieces together...and am REALLY ready to rest again!
This is my first whole-cloth design...I now have to work out how I am going to get it enlarged and printed.
I was fortunate to get some Kaleidoscope mirror's at a quilt shop in Albany...however they were not really big enough.  So I ordered 2 12" mirrors and we taped them together...So I did one 45 degree corner and was able to see what it would look like before I stuck it together.
I am pleased with the result.  The rest will keep.

One more very important thing is that we had special visitors at the weekend... Liz and Rus ... and yes - I did lie down lots.

We had had Birthdays that we had missed - Mine in June and Russ's in early July.
Here is a photo of what Liz made for me...
6 Placemats...very special !!

Liz made the design on the fabric using 4 different sized lids and bleach.  She has also machine quilted all the placemats. Liz will no doubt explain this when she gets to putting it on her web-site...and I have remembered to post her the photo's:)

We got Russ a Pizza 'hot plate' and a pizza recipe book to go with it...He is a great cook!!
I am now off to rest some more - listen to my book and do the 5th row of my POTC's - yes - I am nearly half way...needing to joining the 3rd and 4th rows...but doing it in a different order just for a change.

I will be away this time for a while.

Thank you for the comments on my last post...you are all wonderful :)
And I miss you all too.
