FMQ, FMQ and playing, Designs, Catching up

Long time since I posted..

So here is some catching up a little.

I made a lot of these for gifts at Christmas time... .
I cant find all the photos I took of them...but here are a few

This is the back of the black fabric box...
where I drew a small design to fit the sewn box

This is the outside of the fabric box.

This is inside out - how I put it together

completed fabric box.. I sewed down the inside folds to make little pockets

A Vintage Piece to be completed..using my BFF - QP Curved
Template from Linda Hrcka of The quilted Pineapple... I really love this ruler...
its so easy to work with.

The last two are practice pieces for a soon to be given quilt which I will show later :)

This is a foundation BOM I am attempting...Slow goin, but very interesting.
Think I am Dyslectic...as it all looks a bit back to front ...lol

That's it for now - I will try to catch a=up a bit more later on.

I have been unpicking the first block I sewed on the large King sized quilt
I played for a bit with these

This was sewn with YLI 100 silk on top

This and the lower one was top stitched with King Tut

All were sewn on my Bernina 820.

Now some more unpicking to do, and hopefully I can get back to some serious quilting

FMQ and playing, HQ Sweet Sixteen, Joanne's Quilt Along,

Its such a long time since I posted...lots of things go on here
so time has not been favorable for quilting as much as I would have liked.

So I will put up some photos of what I have managed to get done
These photos are what I have just completed...more info further down

This is finally getting done...Joanne Threadhead's BOM

I first did the central block

This I will unpick..completely as I had the tension wrong, and I just cant face it now.
I did have a photo of the back of this, but am unable to find it. I think I put it on Facebook.

At the border...I had several mistakes and unpicked two blocks before I got it to what I was happy with.  the border is now completed.

Original design and practice piece

...

I have also been doing some sketches or doodling for practice

but I think that's enough from me just now :)

Enjoy your day

Sewn on the HQ Sweet Sixteen, FMQ and playing,

Not much Blogging .lately due to family health issues...
However
I have completed this in the last couple of days

I picked up some couching feet for my Sweet Sixteen last weekend during a brief visit to the Quilt West Quilt and Craft Show.
Tried it out in the last couple of days and completed it tonight.
Backs a bit Iffy... but I don't mind...
I had fun.

Its 13 1/2 inches square.. and I used some wool that I hand on hand for the couching...
Wool batting and some of my own long ago dyed fabric for the binding.

Now back to the Binding on the DWR quilt... I am halfway done and then need to get basting stitches out.

Practicing of course

 Front
and Back!

I love the fabric in this single ring... and may even ...one day do some more of these.
I am WAY behind in my DWR quilt, but am glad I unpicked what I have done.

It was great to have a go at the maybe design I will do.

All for now... I am back to practicing ...hopefully..

Having fun again with my sewing!

FMQ and playing

Yesterday I was very kindly able to use a friends Sweet 16 while she worked.
How wonderful was that.
Here is what I achieved... in 5 hours straight :)

t

I used different threads ...mostly varigated coton...but the feather was with rayon 40wt
This one was all done with yli 100 silk on the top... and did take me some time to get the tension right.  I didnt have any luck with Invisafil

Now back to work on my Bernina 820 :)

I did have such a lot of fun!

Thanks Rhonda :)

FMQ and playing,

Last couple of days I have been playing with my FMQ mostly with McTavishing
Time to get back to this..

Mostly using YLI 100 thread in top and Aurifil  50 in the
bobbin.  The pink thread is a mystery one to me, but it semed to work well

I have been watching DVD i got eith Karen McTavish,s new book.. which is so inspiring
Some of my curves were a bit wonky.

 a feather of course

and some curvy McTavishing for the first time.
As you can see I have three more small squares to sew.
My aplogies for not answering my comment  - which I will do today...
I forgot I had moderation on...lucky as I got soe more spam!

Thank you everyone for your comments - they are really appreciated

FMQ and playing,

On the frame today

I did draw the feather on freehand first, but didn't take too much notice of it..

My todays piece..... I had problems with thread and tension.
Took me ages to get this done..lots of sorting lots of concentration ... and quite a few words !

DH took the machine off the frame - and I sorted it...till it got back on the frame...and I found out I could have sorted it by getting the machine up to one end of the frame, and sitting with it there.. :)
I changed the top thread to a Glide, which was kindly lent me to try and it worked a treat...Autifill in the bobbin..
Things you learn!

So now I need to sort my Sewing room and get some more DWR bits completed.. and more PPP tomorrow...as I hstill have space on my PPP piece to do a bit more...dont want to take it off till all the space is sewn...THEN I can put a quilt on there...

Whoo hoo

On the Frame!, FMQ and playing

YES!!
10pm at night...and FMQ
Just completed this section on the frame.

I am happy at last.
Feel as though I am getting somewhere and feeling more comfortable.
I have my hum-purr :)'
NO BSR and all is good.  I may even get there !

I feel I may even be close to putting an actual quilt on the frame.
More PPP and play time tomorrow.

Practise Designs, FMQ and lots of playing

I have been working thngs ouyt quietly - not a lot, but I am getting there.

Here is what I have been up to.
WARNING - lots of photos.

I was trying out thread colors

They are all yli 100 silk top and bottom...

Except this one... I actually sewed this from the other side.. as per the backing fabric.
with the yli 100 silk on top and the multicoloured thread was in the bobbin, and was King Tut
from Superior Threads.

Practising with  a ruler

I was so feather deprived I just had to do some..
Wow - have I got rusty..so all in all this practice was well worth it for me.

This is showing the back of my feathers on the backing fabric.

Bit more ruler work - and feathers.... trying to the designs a bit bigger.
Not easy when the mind is set for small :)

More feathers and ruler work - not too crash hot.. but fun

Here of course is a lady bug in amongst the gum leaves.. the circles and the bananas :)

 And another feather :)

This one is very wonky!

Feathers again just for fun..

And below are some different angle shots.

Yes there is more ruler work here.

So all in all I think I will be OK to sew the quilt.

This is what I am ,making from the little squares. Lots of hand sewing here, but that's OK as I am still waiting for my black silk thread to arrive... I so hope it gets here next week!!

Thats it for now.

See you again soon.
