My Quilt Along today with Joanne from Thread head.

I made a big Boo-boo... as you can see - two of my blocks  -  Block #3 - not well made, and thankfully helped by Andrea reading out the sizes for me...and the one I have just finished...yep - its a 12" block!
So back to EQ6 go I...to see what I did wrong...and would you believe I have another
cut our ready to sew...and yes its also a 12"
At least I got 2 of Block #3 done... which I couldnt have done with Andrea.

Dont you just love my Boo-boos :)

Into the orphan pile goes another block !

About 3 hours later :_............

I  just made this one...what a difference in size

I was too tired to chop the photo..
The next one is cut out ready - (9")  but thats it for me tonight!

I havnt blogged for a while .....because....I have been trying to sort out my very messy Studio...I cant find things...so I actually have thrown a lot of books I dont use ..  out!!
And put a lot of books in shelves in the garage

At 1.15am Yesterday/today - I was still sorting my studio - yet again.

Sorted my design wall  - yet again...
My POTC is off there ready to put some more blocks to it ..hopefully.

And chaos reigns on this side of the studio...also at 1.15am
I went to bed shortly afterwards.

I have been busy - but not sewing much.
Working on my QW classes and now a bit bugg-eyed!!

Two frogs have re-appeared in our frog pnd - they appear during the sunny hours of the day and disappear about 4.0pm.

They are actually quite big.
We now have a new pond with lots of tadpoles.
No frogs in that one yet!!
I thought this was a happy photo to finish with - Its Andrea and her small brother Patrick.

Back to more drawings and I guess we need food!!

Some Flowers from my garden - real and handmade.

I was late again for my One flower Wednseday
I have made them from fabric printed on in Inklingo that Sandy sent me a while ago
Thank you Sandy - hope your recognise them :)

These flowers - native to Australia ...are Bottle Brush's. At the moment the Bottle Brush bushes here in Leschenault ar overflowing with these beautiful blooms.

I thought I was getting ahead in Joannes Quilt Along, after making 5 of the alternate blocks today .... and more ready to sew.
Then - oh goodness - there is another block up to get done.
However ... I am really enjoying this.
The challenge is great - thank you Joannel

Last night I re-commenced my FMQ - after unpicking what I had first done -  this time on the straight lines.
As you can see I used my quilt Halo...I dont always.
I dont use the BSR either...I am trying to control my stitches myself.
Not easy.

Back to see how to do the next blockin the QA

Started this tonight...and stopped!!
What a mess it looks.  I am unpicking already.
Lessons learned -  and I have only just started
1. dont draw so heavily
2 .Use a fine bic pencil
3. be more particular with the drawing
4. Use more startch.
5.  Wait till tomorrow!!
6. Unpick more basting as you go.
( I got hooked up on threads.)

More tomorrow - maybe.
I need some sleep!!
Its amazing how much more difficult it is to manaouver this size!!

Finished this Machine quilting  last night and sewed the binding on
Its only 1/4 of the whole quilt.
It measures 14" x 14"
It is sewn with  natural coloured YLI silk thread on top and Aurifil 50wt thread underneath.
 Wool wadding between.
The fabric is cream cotton Moda.
I used a 70 machine needle. The 60 broke.

I have a whole roll of cotton wadding here, but have never used it, and am hesitant :(

Below are some close-ups.
I designed this myself after looking at  Sharon Schambers videos on line.

Now I am putting it into a bucket of water and a little soap to soak..to see if the pencil comes out ...fingers crossed!

Next bit will be the whole cloth design I have ready...will take me some time I guess.
This next one will be 28"x28". is whilte and I will use white YLI Silk thread .

The next two blocks of Joanne's Quilt Along are done.

They are far from perfect.
These are challenging me heaps as I have not done this sort of thing for ages....years??
As you can see by the block below - the QST squares - they are just not right...I had to cut them down heaps to get the size.

Off to do some more of the blue blocks..which I am not enjoying either!
Or maybe some Machine Quilting  ..Mmmmm !

My Ladybug Zentangle

and a Zentangle card!

Thats it from me today!

Yesterday I joined Joanne of Thread Head 's
Quilt Along, and completed Block #1 (x 2)

... and today I finished and quilted a cloth Zentagle 'fabric card' a first for me.
Its not quite right, but I am happy with it.
I wasnt sure how to go about it, but have been inspired by Jill from The Quilt Rat -
Thanks Jill - you are an inspiration :)

Started this last night and did some more today.
I now need to do the micro stippling.
Silly me thought I had drawn 1/4 of the whole cloth quilt I had designed...not!
Well it is...though not the one thats ready to sew!
Its 1/4 of the other one.
Thats ok - its my practise one...I can finish it later

And although its Thursday...I added to my Wednesday 's garden.
I decided to just go random... and fill the gaps....no plan!

Here is some of what I did today...

My cutting table - its a lot messier now !!

Not too sure of this yet... after not having done this sort of thing for a while...I didn't find it much fun!
However I have more of less got myself into the swing of things...SO maybe I will keep plodding on.
I am using my Pffaf sewing machine...and I really am not as happy with this.
I much prefer to use my Bernina 440 ..  but that is threaded for my machine quilting...and I don't want to change the tension!
Then I just did some drawings for my visual Diary...so here that is too.

Now I have a choice of hand sewing and/or machine quilting.

Till next time.

Look what came in the mail today!

Glue tips for Elmers Glue
2 rolls of wide freezer paper,
Some new sissors
and a small ironing board to go on the table.

Not much achieved today - Andrea unfortunately had another of her migraines this morning, but she is at school now.
This alway's disrupts plans, and its nearly time to go pick her up and take her to ballet now.
Tomorrow it will be fine to get going - I hope :)

Oh and tomorrow its Wednesday ...  That came round quickly!!

A quick play today

I have started a visual diary.
I am enrolled to do a quilt design course with Carla Bennet of Feathered Fibers
Carol has a new website called The Quilt Whisperer\.
Classes start on 18th October and is an online class.  I am really looking forward to this.
One of the things needed was a back paper pad and a white 'pencil'
I have been experimenting and playing  :)

I have been to work today ...no more till next week
and Andrea is back at school, and busy with lots of things....so I hope to get some more things done.

We have been busy and having fun!

We had Pitza tonight!

I unpicked some of my Flowers so I could have something for my One Flower Wednesday
I wanted to use some of my orphan hexagons that Sandy gave me.

Andrea's little brother Patrick forgot his pyjamas and borrowed some of Andrea's.
Not a clear photo, but it made me smile.

Its been a busy few days :)

Dresden Plate Fancy Pieced - Inklingo

Just finished sewing this together over the weekend.
Could maybe do some more of these with my new Batik.
It was certainly easy to do this 15" block with Inklingo.

Yesterday and today I worked on this..

Below is the front where I have drawn on the design with a bic Pencil
I have used Sharon Schambers. basting method.

and this below is the back.

I have used sik thread on the top and Aurofil thread for the back...There is a change of colour for the back, as I cant find the natural colour, and changed to a white.
I have made a few boo-boo's, but on the whole I am happy with it.
Amazing what you forget in a short time.....
This is my test piece, its 1/4 of the whole quilt.
More of this next week.

And another Zentangle...they are addictive!!

I started this on the plane home, and completed it yesterday.
I have'nt shaded this one...I forgot!
I hope to get some more of the POTC quilt done over the weekend...
